altered surfaces

photographs by Lokadhi Lloyd

a selection of images reflecting the transitory, imperfect and illusory nature of life

exhibition dates: 18 June-31 July 2019

PISTACHIO and PICKLE, 141 Liverpool Road, Islington, London N1 1LA

open: Mon-Fri 8.00 am-4.00 pm, Sat 9.00 am-4.00 pm, Sun 10.00 am-4.00 pm

A selection of photographic prints of Kashmir by Lokadhi Lloyd evoking life on Dal Lake, where watery fields of lotus bloom, aerial walkways meander, life and death mingle seamlessly: the spiritual and the worldly.

The exhibition draws on the experience of having travelled in northern India, a region of sublime beauty and political instability. With reflection, perception and ambiguity as their inspiration, the images extend the artist’s explorations of the notion of boundary within an anthropological space.

All photographs are for sale, individually and as a series of 10: limited edition of 10.

Reflections on a floating world

“If you do not stir up water, it is transparent.
Similarly, you should leave the mind unaltered (natural).
Like the sun, unveiled by clouds, leave the six senses unobstructed as they are (open).
Stay at all times and during all activities undistracted (aware).”
– Gampopa

puddle reflections

“We are survivors of immeasurable events,
Flung upon some reach of land,
Small wet miracles without instructions,
Only the imperative of change.”
– Rebecca Elson

about Lokadhi

Lokadhī Lloyd has a background, stretching back over 30 years, as installation artist and curator. Her work – involving the use of photography, video projection and sound – has largely comprised site-specific installations and other interventions in buildings of architectural interest to which public access is normally not available. The images shown here – all taken on an iPhone – mark a departure into small-scale, two-dimensional work, Lokadhī has exhibited widely in Britain, Europe and Asia.
